Shell Cordovan Horween Leather Watch Strap.

A very special and top-quality watch strap, both for the quality of its workmanship and for the leather used.

For this, we used a highly prized vegetable-tanned leather from the Horween tannery:

Cordovan leather is a very special leather, prized for its durability, water resistance, and ability to resist creasing when folded.

The name Cordovan derives from the Spanish city of Córdoba, where it was first produced in the 7th century.

At the beginning of the 20th century, European tanners, who emigrated to North America, exported this tradition and soon dedicated themselves to the most valued application of the time: as a material for sharpening barber’s razors.

Cordovan is an expensive and difficult leather to manufacture. It is obtained from the rump of a horse, hence its name “Colt’s Hip Skin.” The shells obtained are called “shells” in English, hence their American name, Shell Cordovan. These are small pieces, most often not even large enough to make a pair of shoes.

Unlike cowhide and bovine leather, this one is tanned with vegetable tannins and, as I mentioned, the flesh is worked rather than the grain, resulting in a smooth surface with a natural sheen. These differences, combined with its very nature, give this leather certain special characteristics that make it incomparable to any other, providing it with completely different characteristics and unparalleled quality.

The largest global producer, in addition to being renowned for maintaining extraordinary consistency in the quality of its tanning, is the family-owned company Horween Leather Co., a North American company founded in 1905 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, which has been tanning Cordovan since its inception.

And, as with all our designs, a very flexible finish makes it very comfortable to fasten and wear on your wrist.
